Two species of black-browed albatrosses are caught in New Zealand fisheries. These are the endemic Campbell black-browed albatross (Thalassarche impavida), which breeds on Campbell Island, and the southern black-browed albatross (Thalassarche melanophris), which is widespread.

In the 2002–03 fishing year, there was no observed fishing in flatfish trawl fisheries in the Cook Strait area. No estimates of total captures were made.
