The endemic Chatham Island albatross (Thalassarche eremita) breeds only on The Pyramid, a small island in the Chatham Islands group. Most observed captures in New Zealand fisheries have been in bottom longline fisheries on the Chatham Rise.

In the 2020–21 fishing year, there was no observed fishing in setnet fisheries in the Northland and Hauraki area. No estimates of total captures were made.
