Diving petrels are small pelagic seabirds. Species that breed in New Zealand include the common diving petrel (Pelecanoides urinatrix) and the South Georgia diving petrel (Pelecanoides georgicus).

In the 2006–07 fishing year, there was no observed fishing in albacore longline fisheries. No estimates of total captures were made.
