The fluttering shearwater (Puffinus gavia) is endemic to New Zealand. It is infrequently reported as bycatch in New Zealand fisheries.
In the 2002–03 fishing year, there was no observed fishing in southern bluefin longline fisheries in the Chatham Rise area. No estimates of total captures were made.
