The gadfly petrels are a widespread group of small pelagic birds in the Pterodroma genus. Gadfly petrels that have been observed caught in New Zealand trawl and longline fisheries include grey-faced petrel (Pterodroma macroptera gouldi) and white-headed petrel (Pterodroma lessonii).

In the 2020–21 fishing year, there was no observed fishing in inshore trawl fisheries in the West Coast South Island area. No estimates of total captures were made.
