The Indian yellow-nosed albatross (Thalassarche carteri) breeds in the southern Indian Ocean. They are rarely caught in New Zealand fisheries.

In the 2002–03 fishing year, there was no observed fishing in setnet fisheries in the Cook Strait area. No estimates of total captures were made.
