The Westland petrel (Procellaria westlandica) is endemic to New Zealand, breeding in the Paparoa National Park. Most observed captures have been in trawl fisheries close to the breeding colonies, on the South Island's West Coast.

In the 2002–03 fishing year, there was no observed fishing in shark setnet fisheries. No estimates of total captures were made.
